21. ‘Legal Eagles’ (1986)
‘Legal Eagles’ has a great premise that feels a lot more dusty in action than it does in theory. Robert Redford and Debra Winger star in Ivan Reitman’s legal comedy as two rival lawyers on opposite sides of an art theft case, only for Redford’s slick prosecutor to fall madly in love with Winger’s more earnest defense attorney and help her prove her client’s innocence. Unfortunately, the film gets a little too busy for its own good, diluting both the romance and the legal thrills to disappointing effect. But despite its flaws, ‘Legal Eagles’ still can charm, thanks to Redford’s suave turn and his potent chemistry with Winger. —WC
